We recently had the pleasure of designing and building a new website for St James Church in Ludgershall, Wiltshire, giving the church a fresh online presence that’s welcoming, easy to navigate and simple to keep updated.
Bringing the website up to date
St James already had an established website and domain, but the site was in need of an update to better reflect the church and the important role it plays within the local community.
As part of the project, the website was moved across to Salisbury Apps hosting and a completely new site was built while retaining the church’s existing domain, stjamesludgershall.com.
The aim was to create a modern website that made information easier to find while still retaining the friendly and welcoming character of St James.
More than just Sunday services
One of the important parts of the new website was showing just how much happens at St James Church.
Alongside information about Sunday services, the website provides details of weekly and monthly activities, including Holy Communion, Stepping Stones toddler group, community walks and regular social events.
Visitors can also find information about baptisms, weddings and funerals, explore the history of the church, read the latest news and find out how to get involved.
Church Hall hire, safeguarding information and other useful community resources are also much easier to access.
Making the church welcoming online too
For someone thinking about attending a church for the first time, finding the right information beforehand can make a real difference.
The new website includes practical information about service times, parking and accessibility, as well as a dedicated section for people who aren’t used to attending church.
It’s a good example of why website design isn’t simply about how a site looks. It’s about thinking about the people who will be using it and making their experience as straightforward as possible.
